Roster Breakdown: When a team only returns 44% of their points scored from the previous season there are going to be problems. Lipscomb is returning three key contributors and bringing in nine newcomers which includes 7 freshmen.
Biggest Losses: You choose. But seriously, Jordan Burgason is the biggest loss. He shot 53%, attempted over 7 threes per game and was their biggest weapon.
Biggest Addition: Coming from a junior college, Khion Sankey is ready to play right away. He averaged 7 points and 3 assists for Sheridan College last year.
Oscar Garcia also took the JUCO route but a 43% field goal percentage for somebody 6’8″ and 225 pounds is underwhelming.
Impact Freshman: The only highly recruited player from the 2012 class is John Ross Glover. He is a very athletic 6’4” guard/forward type. His game is based on getting to the basket and he was able to do that vs. a low level of competition in high school, but times are changing and we suspect it might take some time to adjust. How well he does this year will depend on if he can knock down the open shot.
Charles Smith and Stephen Hurt are big bodies who might make an impact defensively.
Breakout Star: Malcolm Smith was the standout freshman from their team last year. He averaged 10 points and 4.4 rebounds. He should continue to shine this year.
Analysis: Lipscomb has been known to unearth some gems over the years, but the odds are slim that any new ones will be ready to contribute enough to put Lipscomb in A-SUN contention right away. It is clearly a rebuilding year for the Bisons and we should know a lot by the year’s end about where the team will stand heading into the 2013-14 season.Follow @KSUOwlHowl
